Rubbish

Cornwall Council collects bagged refuse weekly, early on Tuesday morning. Please ensure your refuse, properly bagged, is placed in the rubbish compound next to the Cliff Top Cafe by Monday night.

Please DO NOT leave rubbish bags anywhere else on the cliff as they attract seagulls and vermin and will not be collected by Cornwall Council.

Recycling

We now have an agreement from Cornwall council and Biffa that recycling will be collected from the compound situated behind the Cliff Top Cafe. Please place items suitable to be recycled in the appropriate containments. The recycling containments will be emptied from the compound each fortnight. If you would like containments for your chalet please let TCCOA know so that they can be ordered.

Holiday lettings waste and recycling

If you rent out your chalet as a holiday let, any waste generated by the occupants is classed as commercial waste (even if your property does not need to be registered for business rates.) It should not, therefore, be put in the compound with domestic refuse unless you have registered for and paid for a commercial waste permit with TCCOA - please use the website contact form if you need to apply. TCCOA pays for a local registered waste disposal contractor to remove commercial waste and recycling from the compound, as the Cornwall Council waste contractors will not take it in the domestic collection. See the Cornwall Council website for more details.

Currently recycled by Cornwall council

  • Plastic bottles, tubs, pots lids etc (but not plastic film or black plastic) - to be put in the red bags
  • Drinks cans, food cans and aluminium foil - to be put in the red bags together with plastic
  • Paper - to be put in blue bags
  • Cardboard (PLEASE FLATTEN) - to be put in orange bags
  • Glass bottles, jars -to be put in black boxes

Some chalet owners have said that they take their recycling away with them. I don't want to discourage this if it works for you and your guests. We are just trying to work together to stop the huge amount of recycling waste being left to go to landfill. The nearest recycling points are Sainsbury's, Torpoint and Cawsand car park for glass only.

Thank you so much for working together on this.

and fortnightly thereafter.

Bulky Waste

Since the inception of the recycling facility at the compound (and the all-too-frequent abuse of the previous system by people leaving their bulky items in an untidy mess without even paying the required contribution to the costs charged by Cornwall Council to remove them) there is insufficient space in the compound for bulky waste items.

Any item too large for placing in a black refuse sack must therefore be disposed of by the chalet owner, either by arranging a bulky waste collection direct with Cornwall Council or another licensed carrier, or by taking the item to an official household waste and recycling centre.

For further information about the Council's rubbish and recycling service, please see the Council website:

The rubbish compound is currently cleaned weekly by Dan Bailey and Helen Parker is the director who oversees cleaning and maintenance of the area.
